He selects four cards, none of which is the selected card. The spectator points to any of the 4 cards, which turns out to be the chosen card!

The Routine

Make note of the bottom card and bring it to the top using an overhand shuffle. Turn around as you explain that you are going to do the following with the deck behind your back, so that it's clear that the phenomenon is a part of the deck, and works through no interference from you the magician. When your back is turned, palm the top card of the deck (the one you noted), and clasp the palmed hand underneath the hand which holds the deck. Turn around and have the spectator take the deck, shuffle it, and replace it to your hand face down. Failure to do this could result in a very embarrasing situation.
$ Q5 {5 c2 w7 \9 M
. Z+ W4 q! h6 sTell the spectator to cut the deck anywhere they like as you restate that they have just shuffled the deck so no one knows the position of any of the cards. When they cut the deck, use this as an opportunity to turn around and ask them if they've had a free choice to cut the deck anywhere they pleased. As you turn around, put the palmed card on top of the deck. Then turn back around and have the spectator pick off the top card, the card they supposedly cut to. Have them remember it, show it everyone else, replace the card in the deck, take the deck and shuffle it.

Now you will go through and take out 4 cards. Three cards you take out will be a different color than the chosen card (ie if the chosen card was red, choose 3 black cards) and finally, the fourth card will be the chosen card. Place this one on top of the other 3 cards.

Now show the bottom card briefly asking the spectator if that was their card, turn the pack face down and pull out the bottom card. Place it on the table. You want to show these cards briefly as you will see in a moment because you will be showing one of the cards twice.

Do the same as before, by showing the bottom card briefly, ask if it's theirs. Turn the deck over, now slide the bottom card back with your hand holding the pack and pull out the second to bottom card (the chosen card). Put it on the table face down.

Finally, show the last card very briefly, asking if it's theirs and place it on top of the pile on the table. The reason the cards are a different color is so the spectator can tell they are not their chosen card without having to look for more than an instant. Showing this final card briefly will ensure that the spectator does not realize that they have seen this card already.

Now line up the cards on the table in a row from you to the spectator with the chosen card second from the spectator. Ask the spectator to point any card. 95% of the time, they will point to the chosen card (The second from them). If this is the case, wave your hand over the card mysteriously as if making it transform and turn it over. The trick is over, take a bow.

The other 5% of them time, the spectator will not poin to the chosen card. Here's what to do in those cases.

In the other 3 cases, simply use a magician's force technique. If they point to a card that is not the chosen card, ask them to point to another card as well. If these two are both not the chosen card, then pull them out as if narrowing down the options. If one of them is the chosen card, take out the other two cards as if narrowing down the options.
